Domestic Biomass Boilers

ETA Biomass Boilers

Commercial Biomass are registered and certified installers of ETA biomass boilers.

ETA are the UK’s bestselling commercial biomass boilers, with a thirty percent market share. They set the standard for safe and reliable fuel conveying systems, efficiency and innovation. These boilers can burn either wood pellets, chipped wood, logs, or even a type of elephant grass called miscanthus, while some can burn a combination of these fuels. All ETA boilers operate by burning wood inside highly-efficient, self contained units to provide heating and hot water to homes and businesses of all sizes. All ETA boilers are Renewable Heat Incentive compatible, which means they are eligible for government funding.

ETA wood burning boilers give outputs from 7kw to 500kw. A 7kw boiler would suit a small house and a 500kw boiler would provide enough heat for a large factory building. The boilers are ideal where heating needs to be economical, environmentally-friendly and automatic.

ETA PU Boiler 7-15 kW

The ETA Pellets Unit (PU) is a slimline model that is perfect for homes and offices. The boiler can be placed right up against the wall, freeing up space in your boiler room. The unit can fetch pellets from a bunker up to twenty metres away by means of a vacuum system and hoses.

ETA SH Twin Boiler 20-30 kW

The ETA SH Twin biomass boiler can burn Pellets and Logs. A modern log boiler is highly effective. Normally, you only have to add fuel once a day, but a log boiler does not run fully automatically. ETA’s Twin Boiler is the ideal solution for those who want to use cheap wood fuel and still want to enjoy the full benefits of fully automated comfort. The ETA TWIN consists of two fully fledged boilers that perfectly complement each other. If the fuel runs out in the log boiler, it lets you know. If over the time period you’ve specified no logs are added, the pellet boiler automatically takes up the work until you add fuel again to the log boiler. So your home stays warm even if you are not there for some time.

ETA PE-K Boiler 35-90 kW

For a more industrial scale there’s the PE-K pellet boiler, with sizes from 35 to 90kw. This has its ‘day hopper’ on the side with a vacuum unit capable of bringing pellets up to 20m from a remote store. The filling times can be set to any time of day. For the purposes of domestic RHI, a domestic biomass boiler can be no larger than 45kW. If you need a bigger boiler for a domestic property, you have to install multiple boilers no larger than 45kW each. The PE-K boiler is perfect for this as the modular design allows two or even three boilers to be set up in parallel.

Grant Spira

Grant Spira

Grant Spira Biomass Boiler

Commercial Biomass are G-One registered MCS suppliers and installers of Grant Biomass boilers.

With a strong presence in the oil boiler market, Grant developed their own biomass pellet boilers from scratch to reduce carbon emissions in the domestic heating market and the switch to greener fuels. Most of their competitors simply bought-in boilers from eastern block countries and re-badged them instead.

The benefit of a Grant Spira biomass boiler is simplicity, coupled with high efficiency of up to 97% achieved with its patented baffle system and condensing heat exchanger. There is very little to go wrong with the boiler and, as with their oil boilers, the engineering is heavyweight and robust.

Heat outputs range from 6kW to 72kW, with the higher outputs achieved by a twin boiler installation. This means the 72kW installation is eligible for Domestic RHI, as both boilers are beneath the maximum individual rating of 45kW.

Key features:

  • MCS approved
  • High efficiency (up to 97%)
  • Modulating burner (down to less than 25% of max output)
  • Integrated bulk pellet store
  • 125mm conventional flue
  • Automatic pellet feed and ignition
  • Award winning condensing heat exchanger
  • DEFRA approved under the Clean Air Act

MCZ pellet stove -- Stylish and RHI compatible

MCZ pellet stove — Stylish and RHI compatible

MCZ pellet stoves, boilers and fires

Commercial Biomass is a certified installer of MCZ pellet stoves, boilers and fires. The pellet boilers and ‘Hydro’ stoves are RHI compatible, so the government will pay you an incentive if you use these.

Stoves and fires are also available without water circuits. Although these types are not eligible for RHI funding, they are still worth considering as they are cheaper to buy than the hydro appliances. Many are available with an air ducting system that you can use to spread the heat around your home.

Most stoves in the range are capable of heating the whole house, replacing an existing oil or gas boiler on the radiator or underfloor heating system already installed in your house. The beauty of heating with an MCZ biomass stove is that you can claim domestic RHI payments that help pay for the installation cost.

On models such as the Duo, you can alter the amount of heat the stove puts into the room that it’s in, so if you come in and want a quick warm-up you can open it right up and warm yourself in front of the fire.

All models feature automatic ignition and run on wood pellets at or above 90% efficiency. They’re also cheaper than other biomass boilers and still capable of heating an average-sized house.

Heat Pumps

We install IDM ground source and air source heat pumps, as well as Kensa ground source and open source heat pumps. These are also eligible for funding by the government’s RHI scheme. A heat pump works on the same principle as a refrigerator, which takes a relatively low heat and amplifies it into a higher heat. In a refrigerator the heat is taken out of your food and discharged to the exterior by the black radiator on the back of the fridge. In a heat pump the heat is recovered from the ground, a water course, or from the air, and the heat pump discharges the amplified heat into your heating system. Typically heat pumps can achieve a CoP in excess of 3:1, meaning for every 1kw of electricity you use to the extract the heat you get 3kw of heat energy.

Air source heat pumps will usually have a CoP higher than that of ground source during the warmer months and lower CoP during colder weather.

Solar Photovoltaic Panels

We install and maintain solar panels, from small 4kw domestic systems to arrays in excess of 200kw. This is another technology that is eligible for government subsidies whether you use all the electricity yourself or export to the national grid. There is a separate FIT (feed in tariff) if you choose to export.

Low Energy Lighting

We can advise on and install a wide range of low energy lighting schemes, both domestic and commercial. With recent advances in the production of LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) there is now a staggering variety of cheap low energy lighting available. Unlike the conventional low energy light bulbs that first replaced the tungsten filament light bulbs we were all used to, the LED bulbs give full output instantaneously and, largely due to the fact LEDs give out light without producing heat, they are very cheap to run. They also last a very long time when compared to conventional tungsten filament bulbs.
